Sustainability

Sustainability is driven by how we deliver our work.

We reduce environmental impact by completing projects right first time, minimising vehicle movements, and delivering multiple services through a single, coordinated team. The result is fewer visits, less disruption, and a lower overall project footprint.

Built into our delivery

Sustainability is embedded in our operational model. Every project is planned with efficiency in mind. We allocate operatives locally wherever possible, strategically plan works for teams operating further afield, and optimise routes using real-time telematics and journey monitoring.

By reducing unnecessary travel and improving how we deploy our teams, we lower emissions while improving service reliability and responsiveness.

This approach also supports the direction of travel across Ireland’s transport and construction sectors, where clients are placing greater emphasis on decarbonisation, efficient delivery, and stronger environmental reporting.

Right first time

One of the most effective ways to reduce environmental impact is to get it right first time.

We place a strong emphasis on detailed planning, coordination, and quality delivery to ensure works are completed correctly the first time. Whether delivering traffic management or VRS solutions, our teams go beyond minimum requirements to ensure nothing is missed.

This approach reduces project delays, prevents avoidable defects, and delivers better outcomes for our clients, both operationally and environmentally.

One company, less impact.

CHM operates as a fully integrated infrastructure support partner.

By delivering traffic management, VRS and TVRS services in-house, we reduce the need for multiple contractors on site. Our multi-skilled teams can carry out several workstreams within a single visit, helping to reduce site congestion, vehicle movements, and coordination complexity.

This streamlined approach not only improves efficiency but also provides a more sustainable way of delivering projects from start to finish.

Smarter Equipment, Lower Impact

We continuously invest in innovative equipment and materials that improve efficiency and help reduce environmental impact.

We are also actively progressing towards lower-emission operations through

  • Smart AI powered technology allows remote monitoring, reducing carbon emissions and improving efficiency.

  • Trialling alternative fuels such as HVO.

  • Introducing battery-powered equipment to reduce generator use where suitable

  • Utilising solar-powered traffic management systems where practicable.

These initiatives help reduce emissions, noise, and overall site impact without compromising performance.

Full control, better outcomes

All works are delivered in-house.

This gives us complete control over planning, quality, and execution, which will help ensure that sustainability is considered consistently across every project. Without reliance on subcontractors, we are able to mobilise quickly, coordinate effectively, and maintain high standards throughout.

For our clients, this means improved working windows, fewer delays, and greater programme certainty.

Delivering value for our clients

Our approach to sustainability delivers clear operational benefits:

  • Fewer site visits and reduced vehicle movements.
  • Lower disruption on live infrastructure.
  • Improved programme efficiency and reliability.
  • Reduced overall project footprint.
  • Stronger alignment with ESG and reporting requirements.

We do not treat sustainability as a standalone requirement. It is the outcome of delivering smarter, more efficient operations.

Continuous improvement

We are committed to continually improving how we measure and manage our environmental impact.

We are developing enhanced tracking of operational data, including journey efficiency, resource usage, and site performance, to better quantify our impact and support client reporting requirements.

Alongside this, we are advancing our transition towards digital and paperless systems and strengthening our environmental management processes to improve visibility, accountability, and control.

Looking ahead

As our business continues to grow, we remain focused on improving how we operate.

From investing in more sustainable equipment to refining our delivery model, our goal is simple: to reduce environmental impact while delivering better outcomes for our clients.

We do not treat sustainability as a standalone requirement. It is the outcome of delivering smarter, more efficient operations.
